Area Information

Location:  Southwestern Idaho, 40 miles southeast of Boise, the State Capital.  We're about 470 miles southeast of Portland, OR and 300 miles northwest of Salt Lake City, UT.

Setting:  Mountain Home is located on the Snake River Plain with the Trinity Mountains located 20 miles to the north.  The nearby mountain ranges and Snake River offer an abundance recreational activities.

Population:  Current estimates indicate a population of about 12,000 in the City with an additional 7,000 at Mountain Home Air Force Base, 10 miles southwest.

Cost of Living:  According to the Sperry Index, Mountain Home's Cost of Living Index is 82 (National Cost of Living Index is 100.  A lower number indicates a lower cost of living).

Crime:  In 2006, Elmore County ranked 24th out of 44 Idaho counties for Class "A" crimes reported.  This was the 5th consecutive year of decline for the Mountain Home area.

Climate and Weather:  We enjoy a high desert climate - generally dry with warm summers and reasonably mild winters.  Based on temperature and humidity Mountain Home has a comfort index of 64 as compared to the U.S. average of 44 (higher is more comfortable).
